A young Coal India Limited (BCCL) employee, Dev Kumar, who never went to an English- medium school, is running a couple of schools for poor children.
“Pathshala” is an english-medium free school for underprivileged children of Katras, Dhanbad and adjoining areas studying from Nursery to Class V. The schools are in an area where thousands of mines-affected people reside and basic awareness and skills development is required.
School believes in learning by practical examples and hence Pathshala adopts modern pedagogy of teaching with help of real world examples. For example, counting is more interesting when we ask children to count the stairs and any noble personality is introduced by his/her replica among the children.
Pathshala has all basic facilities such as separate toilets for girls and boys, a playground and water connection. Pathshala Children also get free uniform, books, stationery, sweaters, shoes and other school related items. Pathshala also provides free transportation facility for students residing in far-off places.
